An important safety device on swimming pool filters is the air-relief valve on pressure systems. The air-relief valve releases pressure, which builds up in the pool filter tank. Air will accumulate in the top of the filter during the filter cycle and needs to be released before opening the pool filter. The air-relief system can be automatic or manual.

The air relief valve should be opened periodically for proper operation and to prevent harm to people or equipment. Always turn off the pump AND open the air-relief valve before loosening the clamps on any pressure tank.

Bleed filter tank before releasing any clamps or bolts. CAUTION! Make sure pump is off.
